Valencia County CASA
"You go into a court room and you will see lawyers who know the law and have dozens of kids' files, or you have social workers who know the regulations and have dozens of kids' files. But if a CASA volunteer is in the room, you will see they have just one file, and what they know is that one child. And that can make all the difference to a judge's decision regarding the rest of that child's life. "
— Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Anna Quindlen

The mission of the Valencia County CASA is to advocate for abused and neglected children involved in the court system.

Valencia County CASA is based in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

There are numerous ways to volunteer in the Valencia County CASA program:

  1. 1. As a CASA volunteer, you complete 30 hours of intensive training and are then appointed by the Judge to advocate for a specific child or children involved in an abuse/neglect case. You may spend 2 to 3 hours a week working on your assigned case.
  2. As a CASA board member, you serve for a two year term (attending quarterly meetings) providing leadership and guidance for the Valencia County CASA program.
  3. As a CASA speaker’s bureau volunteer, you are trained to give brief community presentations about child abuse and neglect and the issues facing children in foster care.
  4. As a CASA special projects volunteer, you support the Valencia County program by involvement in short term office projects.
  5. As an individual or a business friend, you support the Valencia County CASA program with financial donations or in-kind contributions to the program.

CASA volunteers are the only volunteers that are appointed by a judge and empowered to stand up for an abused or neglected child in court. We hope you decide to join our family of volunteers, everyday people, who are committed to improving children’s lives.
